Board and rents

Updated

This is the Rentopia board as the match uses it: forty spaces, clockwise from START, with the price and rent printed for each street. The rules quick reference only summarizes empty rent and hotel rent. The narrative of a turn is in How to play. Nothing on this page is a house rule the host can edit.

Empty rent is the charge with no houses, when you do not yet own the whole district. Set rent is that same number doubled, and it applies only when you own every street in the district and none of them has a house. One house through a hotel replaces the set rent. It is not added on top. A mortgaged street charges nothing.

Cobbler Lane costs $60. Alone, the rent is $2. Own both Old Town streets and build nothing, and that rent is $4. The first house costs $50 and sets the rent to $10. The third house sets it to $90. A hotel sets it to $250. Mortgaging Cobbler Lane pays $30. Clearing that mortgage costs $33. At the other end of the board, a hotel on Skyline Point charges $2,000.

Street rents

House cost is per house. A hotel is the fifth build on that street: it replaces four houses, and those four houses go back to the bank. Selling a level returns half of what that level cost.

Stations

Each station costs $200. Rent depends on how many stations you own, not on houses: 1 owned $25, 2 owned $50, 3 owned $100, 4 owned $200. A Fortune card that sends someone to the next station charges twice that usual fare when you already own the station. One station's usual fare is $25, so the card charges $50. All four usual fare is $200, so the card charges $400.

  • North Line Station. Mortgage $100, clear for $110.
  • Harbor Ferry. Mortgage $100, clear for $110.
  • Central Depot. Mortgage $100, clear for $110.
  • Airport Express. Mortgage $100, clear for $110.

Companies and taxes

City Power and Reservoir Co. each cost $150. Landing on one, when the owner has only that company, costs four times the dice you just rolled. Landing when the owner has both costs ten times the dice. A roll of 7 is $28 or $70. A Fortune card that sends you to the next company is different: if it is already owned, you roll again and pay ten times that new roll, whether the owner has one company or both. The card text is on the card list.

  • Property Levy is $200, paid to the bank.
  • Yacht Tax is $100, paid to the bank.

What the host can change

Before the first roll, the host can change starting cash (usually $1,500), START salary (usually $200), the Lockup fine (usually $50), the turn timer (usually 90 seconds), auctions, even building, the building supply (usually 32 houses and 12 hotels), and a Town Square jackpot that is off by default. Those switches are in the lobby. They do not rewrite the prices or rents in the tables above. Passing START pays the salary. Landing on START pays it too. A trip to Lockup from Busted, or from a card, does not pay salary on the way.

Mortgaging pays half the printed price, rounded down. Buying the mortgage back costs that amount plus 10 percent, rounded up. A player who receives a mortgaged deed in a trade pays the bank 10 percent of the mortgage at once. Buildings in a district have to come off before a street in that district can be traded.
